Haiti Earthquake Response

Haiti earthquake

Please join Hope Force International and WCCF in praying for the people of Haiti, one of the poorest nations on earth. By now, most of us are aware of the powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the island nation of Haiti on Tuesday- January 12, 2010 @4 PM (CST). The devastation has been overwhelming, and the suffering beyond comprehension. The fullness of the death toll and destruction is still yet to be determined, but is undoubtedly on a scale unlike anything this impoverished nation has endured in recent history.

We are deeply touched with the news of this terrible event. Presently, Hope Force International is in the early stages of making contact with potential partners on the ground in an effort to formulate an appropriate and effective response. Your prayers for God’s direction and provision are essential. As information becomes available and plans begin to take shape, we will be communicating our intentions.

UPDATE:

Tuesday, January 19, 2010: Hope Force personnel are on the ground in Haiti, thanks to a dedicated team of support staff and rapid response planning. Hope Force Founder, Jack Minton, along with Craig Snow and Dr. Tim Browne are leading the assessment efforts that will begin to provide pathways for personnel and equipment to flow to this nation in turmoil. Partner agencies and churches are mobilizing lifesaving supplies and will begin sending them through the delivery channels that are now opening through these efforts.

January 30, 2010: More than two weeks after Haiti’s massive earthquake toppled buildings and buried countless victims, the Red Cross estimates three million people – a third of the country’s population – need aid. An estimated 200,000 have died and the full death toll may never be realized.

In collaboration with World Relief, Hope Force is working with two Christian Hospitals in Haiti to serve the tens of thousands of people impacted by the earthquake. Smith & Nephew, a leading orthopedic manufacturer in Memphis, is sending more than $2 million of supplies through Hope Force.
According to Jack Minton, “We now have two medical teams on the ground with supplies and resources, permitting them to bring much needed compassionate care to those who are suffering. Our staff members, volunteers and supporters across the country have worked tirelessly to mobilize disaster response teams, relief supplies, medical equipment and finances that have propelled us into a full-scale relief effort in Haiti.
Anesthesia equipment and orthopedic supplies are at King’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince thanks to dedicated efforts from multiple partners in Haiti and the US. Hope Force personnel are fighting to save life and limb as more survivors arrive daily for treatment. The Smith & Nephew donation of life-saving medical supplies is en route to Haiti at present as well as a team of three medical professionals.
Urgent Needs
Hope Force personnel are participating in the daily UN disaster response coordination meetings. The need to purchase and send tents that can serve as patient recovery and volunteer housing is predominant. This urgent need is being felt by most every relief agency working amongst the devastation.
Hope Force International is assembling the equipment and personnel to provide a workable Base Camp that will house aid workers and serve as a patient recovery center. The project involves the purchase and deployment of durable tent facilities, which will be located on existing Hospital property, for patient recovery and volunteer housing. The initiative will expedite relief and recovery efforts by providing a Base Camp for communication, coordination of work crews and a safe, stable environment for volunteer responders.
A preliminary list of items and funds has been identified to support this project. We invite you to consider giving toward these needs or recruiting your church, service agency or company to fully sponsor one or more of these urgently needed items:

  • Durable Tent Structures
    • $60,000  | Donate Now
    • Dedicated space for volunteer housing, supplies storage and patient recovery
  • Shipping Expenses for Equipment & Supplies
  • Fuel for Generators
  • Flight for one aid worker from the United States to Haiti
  • Crutches for five Haitian patients

In addition we are in need of equipment and supplies to support our relief efforts. Equipment must be in new or refurbished condition. Please click here to view the most urgent items on our Needs List.

According to Hope Force’s Jack Minton, “The mission of Hope Force is to equip willing responders and mobilize them onto pathways of service. The crisis in Haiti is a prime example of the need to have individuals from all walks of life trained to go into disaster situations. Hope Force Response Teams embody technical skill, experience and commitment to the fundamentals of disaster management.”
